Island Nations Kiribati
"While rising sea levels ultimately influence the entire planet, they pose the greatest threat to the island nations currently residing at sea level. Kiribati is to this crisis first." (Katherine Butler 1). Kiribati is located in the South Pacific, that sits just above 6 feet above the sea level on average. Kiribati's President Anote Tong predicts that his island will be uninhabitable in 60 years due to severe climate change. Kiribati is at a high risk of disappearing because of the rising sea level, that has been caused by the melting sea ice and the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. The changes in the climate are blamed on the carbon emissions from the power plants, cars, and many other human activities. According to officials, Kiribati's emissions per capita were 7% of the global average and were less than 2% of the United States. Unfortunately though, Kiribati is in the unlucky position of being the most likely to suffer from the extreme clime change.
